What is Changing?

Meta is introducing a 2-link-per-month limit for standard, unverified business accounts. Under this new policy:

  • Free Tier Limit: Unverified accounts are capped at just 2 organic posts containing external links per month.

  • Who it affects: Traditional Facebook Business Pages and personal profiles operating in Professional Mode. Standard, private personal profiles are not affected.

  • Rollout: Meta is deploying this gradually across global accounts. If your page isn't showing this limit yet, expect to see it soon.

Important Note on Workarounds

While placing links in post comments used to be the standard detour, Meta is expanding the 2-link cap to include comments as well. Dropping links in comments is not a reliable long-term solution.

How To Adapt Your Strategy

To keep driving website traffic and engagement, here are the tactics I suggest leaning into:

  1. Optimize Bio & Profile Links: Streamline your page’s main bio/about section so your primary website, landing page, or link tree is prominently displayed and easy for visitors to find.

  2. Leverage Facebook Stories: Story link stickers currently do not count toward the monthly limit. This is a great channel for daily promotions, blog drops, and direct calls-to-action.

  3. Utilize Facebook Events: Setting up dedicated Facebook Events for webinars, product drops, or special occasions allows us to include unlimited links natively within the event pages.

  4. Prioritize On-Platform Content: Facebook's algorithm heavily favors videos, Reels, and engaging image/text posts.

  5. Last Resort: Explore Meta Verified / Meta One: If direct website outbound clicks from daily posts are vital to your business operations, subscribing to Meta’s verified business plans unlocks higher or unlimited link allowances.
